seems like a distraction, an intentional distraction devised by the powers that be.

the real issue is the NDAA bill... and yet, we the Internet e-people have embarrassed the sopa cause over the larger and much more important issue - the attack on OUR bill of rights.

I'm thinking the USA has already been bought and sold... I mean, think about it... these NEW laws are real similar to the laws the chinese folks must follow. coincidence that we borrow a shit ton of cash from these folks and out of nowhere we have these fucked up bills being pushed down our throats.

of course, the erosion of our rights has been going on since the early 50's, but the freaky shit that's been going down as of recent tells me we might NEED to pick the corporation who's 'politics' are in line with our own and give them our talent and worth in hopes they can fix shit.

OR we the creative can turn our backs on it all and create something that can not be restrained, much like the internet seems... the creative can lead the way, they just need to recognize the power of creativity.

the augur's lituus is made from a huge marijuana stalk, 'the clay', shells, silver chain, brass, bear jaw bone with teeth, rope and chain from a ship wreck, 9" nails, a shot glass and a crystal to top it off.

if you look, maybe if I were to show it to you, you'd see the fertility aspects of the staff... the sperm, the egg, the vagina's, the penis… the bear and the deer. yep, it's almost all about getting laid and if it weren't for the day to day augural duties it would be ALL about getting laid… this staff helps build a strong wand.

this christmas, it's better than the rest... one of the best... no, absolutely the best.

I have hated xmas for as long as I can remember... it's always represented a date where insincere family gets together and fakes interest. no interest the rest of the year, no phone call on a Wednesday in june, just show up and gift give on xmas and absolve yourself of any and all real family/societal obligation.

Over the last 5 years we've been on the road and working thru a creative project as well as family evolution/change/drama, so we've totally ignored this holiday. Our family doesn't usually gift give on xmas, we usually work thru it and try to ignore it... maybe a movie.

today, seeing amy's joy at getting a gift on and in or near the season... well, it put it all into perspective.

I guess I can look on it as a season to give back.
for what you might ask? yea... for what.
it's just the beauty of the life around my world... birds and trees and spys like that...the stuff that makes me wonder and ask, I like that... no, I love it.

it's a season of appreciation and respect.

I support the occupy folks and I'm happy to see them removed from the parks.

it's not a free speech issue.
it's a do nothing issue.

you've had the support of many unions, including the teachers union.
and what did you do with that support?

you could have done many things, maybe hired investigators to find out why children have out-dated school books or why the veteran hospitals are so horrid yet the parks built for vets are so nice… you could have shamed administrators into action.

I believe americans supported this moment, and that support is getting less and less because, get this… we're a results driven society.

what the occupiers have accomplished is creating jobs, albeit in the security and law enforcement sector… you've also offered a great distraction for the politician, who can place blame on you and who seems to be stoking the fire every time the occupy deal starts to fizzle out… ever wonder why??

let me tell you why… because it's better than talking about the issues, the real issues… and the lack of answers the old guard, old minded political has to struggle with.

It's been a week since I've been to the occupy portland encampment and my attitude hasn't changed much and my skeptic nature has grown.

regardless of my politics, I understand that the 99% movement is important. my anger comes from the promise of negotiating a better deal being so close and yet, so far away.

will the 99% deal fizzle out?
are the 99% really just pawns in a political game most will never know or understand?

After visiting the portland camp I took notes fast and furious. how exciting… how depressing. my notes reflect and agree a lot with what my tea bagger pals, the other side, the right or what ever the other, other side, the left, the 99%ers call them.

It was close to impossible to ask a question outside of why are you here… if I asked anything close to reflecting my growing skeptical nature, I was cut off, I was stopped, I was asked to stop filming others, I was questioned about my loyalties more time than I care to recount and more times than I have EVER been questioned in ALL my years of questioning.

I'm not sure which was more shocking… to find out that I agreed with some who I consider, at best, wrong… or the fact that I was attacked and questioned by folks I agreed with for the most part.

I couldn't help walk away from the event feeling as if I had just re-learned a lesson I learn each and every time I try and work with a group with a cause and goal - it's best just to stick to yourself, do as much as possible and try to influence from inside out… influence the children, family, neighbors and zip code you live in and so on… the group efforts that want control are just as scary as the group effort that are in control… and I've never studied a group who wasn't secretly after the control/power they go on about not being interested in.

My suggestion for the 99% group, in hopes you'll avoid being a complete joke:

HEAD TO N.Y.:
local occupations - stop it. you're a joke. and splintered and separate, you have NO power… this will serve to take the steam out of what you/we/they/them have done… if you're gonna march, do that, it works well. the gathering in the park attracts the lowest of the low and even if they're not, muddy campers isn't gonna work on t.v..

FUNDS GO TO N.Y.:
please, please, if you're going to stay in the parks, please quit collecting money for the opportunity to camp out and eat pizza. funds are needed in NY, that's where wall street is, that's where the attention/support should be… if you're going to raise funds locally, use the funds for a bus full of supplies and people headed to N.Y. - you know this idea makes sense, so do it.

OUTREACH:
please do more than raise money. it sickens me to see limited resource spent raising and or spending funds… outreach to the tribes, to other ethnic groups who have blazed the human rights trails that you're walking on.

it would also help with the non-leader, leaders image of being the wanna be 1%.
reach out to the low class, the tribes, the juggalos, the plumbers named joe... those from a zip code not considered, even by the most liberal, liberal.

I bet ex-cons and former street gang members might be just as intimidating as a union member… but, same as it's always been.

again, the white collage kid covered in mud isn't gonna get sympathy from the general public… please give the mic to folks who might be hard to understand, those who speak juggalo, ebonics, metal head… this upper middle class rage is more of the punchline with america being the joke… and no-one who is american wants to be a global joke. passion, heart can transcend ignorance and it can speak to those of whom your proper queens english will never reach.

living your politics is real hard to do, talk is not. sacrifice is relative.

the forgotten zipcode is forgotten for a reason - really, what do they have to offer/give/exploit. by the 99% not reaching out to those zipcode, and with those folks not in on the mix, this event it looks like more of the same - the wanna be 1% trying to rule thru the funny concept of non-rule.

I just can't see this moment/movement going anywhere quick.

the folks who do have jobs, those who are of value to an employer or those who run a business with employees… unless they STOP working, the ruling class really has no reason to negotiate with the unemployed and those of little to no value (in a corporate/ruling class sense)… really think about it.

#1. how do you LIVE your politics…

it seemed like, over the course on the next two clips, I was asked to stop filming this person or the next or both like, maybe, a dozen times... it was rude and made for a confusing time. I have a lead in clip I haven't posted, It shows the gal with the mic cut this kids complaint off and call an end to the meeting... for me, it was all I needed... I wanted to hear what the person in charge didn't feel worthy of my time/ears. I came out of this thinking... more of the same, politics as usual... the fix is in.

the people have continued to cry out for JUSTICE, not handouts… they get the handouts, they don't get the justice.

so, what do you naysayers have against justice?
what do those not down with the 99 have against fair?

It's disgusting how the haters are talking a lot shit about hardworking, educated and successful individuals that have joined the 99… what once might have been a scattered hippy movement has grown and is backed by some great minds and successful, dedicated and hardworking AMERICANS… much different than how most try and cast this moment and movement away as some juggalo, anarchist rebellion.

this is about evolution, about the future… it's not about the 60's… it's a different deal… I suspect the anti-99 know this.

the 1% contains what??? let me tell you… the 1% contains unimaginative, bullshit-brilliance, that has absolutely gotten america in last place overnight. they, the 1%, are wrought with insecurities, nepotism is at the heart of their insecurities, insecure to the point of greasing the pole for generations to come. the massive lack of opportunity isn't on accident.

and let's talk responsibility… when does the system take responsibility for what IS happening? bad rulers, bad results… and no, the blame isn't on some talking head that plays the role of president… and I suspect you know that as well… the system is responsible for the systematic brake down, they're the boss, they run the show… not the juggalo herd or the fake ass face man they call the commander in chief.

today I clean up my Facebook account not exclusively because of the new Facebook… it's about preparation for the new internet.

yes, that's right… the new internet is upon us.

the one coming. where they turn your life into a timeline and ultimately like a t.v. show... and they follow you and share everything, not just what you want... and the privacy stuff will be so convoluted you'll need a tech degree to understand how they fuck you/sell you or perhaps a app that protects your other apps.

social media has been a great addition to communication and I'm sure will continue to be a useful tool. the evolution and greatness of, will depend on how free it is… free not only in cost, but more importantly, free in expression.

for me, I liked it just fine back in 2001 when I started broadcasting/streaming audio and eventually podcasting from my home studio… the only on-line tool that has improved my ability to communicate has been that of video technology implemented by youtube… the rest of it, the name brands, the social on-line hang outs… it's just more of the same shit.

for entertainers, authors ect. the new FB is no longer a good thing in my book. it can be, just depends on how we use and don't use these tools of communication... and more importantly how we understand how we are used by these tools or, who's the tool, tool.

the kind of changes Facebook is about to implement will finally and once again separate the pro's from the not-consistent yahoo's and morons who think posting a picture makes them a photographer, or who, because they can twitter to a steven king, because they hang out on-line "with" a great and accomplished author, they are now just as talented as said author.

greatness in art isn't aways agreeable, so maybe I should equate this to do'ers and do nothings and the fact that just because folks hang out with do'ers, doesn't mean they 've done anything… it certainly doesn't guarantee they'll even be inspired to do anything and if the do'er does inspire, it turns into the plagerism, today, in the social media landscape, inspiration equals plagiarism and theft of ideas.

talent by association is a virus created by social media.
doing by doing nothing is a plague created by social media.
inspiration turning to plagiarism has become acceptable thanx to social media.

like I said, the new internet can be a good thing... IF those who create beyond content, beyond the endless stream of cat photos and trivial complaints go their own way. the artist, the author, the creator, they need to hold back… it's time for the pro communicators to separate themselves from the virtual scrap booking and endless stream of BBQ and vacation photos.

if the creative elite can refrain from exclusively 'using' the free services available and house their work on their own website using their own server… this will define the professional creator/artist and separate them from the amateur. and they, the consummate consumer will come running for decent art vs. common content. if the pro's don't share it all, their 'friends' list will bore the consumer back to the movies, back to the artist, the poet, the author.

for me, I've always had my own server, but I came into this game having studied the internet. I was a publisher of books and was one of the first publishers on-line and one who embraced print-on demand technology… and I've loved playing and communicating on the myspaces and facebooks of the world. now as those "social" sites turn into a hub of entertainment over communication, I'm 90% out of there.

yes, I'll keep a presence, but I'll keep all my photos and words on my site and my server alone… I just don't want Facebook or whoever the new facebook/social hang out is, I don't want them using recipes and photos I post in some stupid timeline and presented as my life story. for some wild reason, if that books gonna be written, I'd like to have more control over it.

and then there's the "TRUST US, NOT YOUR FRIENDS LIST" kind of programing going on with so-called 'privacy' settings…. we set "privacy" settings against our 'friends' but Facebook, they're of course a-ok.

the paranoid in me also finds the timing and 'evolution' of FB as suspect, an election year and the individual message is getting lost and the propaganda is overwhelming.

in a world where the corporation runs the show, you really need to pick and choose the corporation that fits into your politics, into your belief system… for me, Facebook isn't the one.

I do want it know that I do NOT want one person in my DNA family or any family for that matter to receive one thin dime. any exceptions to this will be carried out by amy/doug in a personal and private way.

my pal doug said it was ok and it was, in that moment and that place… that place being the center for healing spiritual and cultic abuse... and I was stoked to be able to help, to consult and work with other, fellow advisory board members like michael shermer of skeptic magazine and douglas rushkoff of himself.

and then the fella who is at the head, the lead, the big cheese… well, he starts acting odd… using the CHSCA twitter feed and Facebook page to wage a war on paypal… over shipping money.

at this point I resigned in my mind. I mean, if you're doing so bad that shipping money is driving you to rage and to flame out on-line, you have bigger and better priorities to face.

so what I'm saying is I can't stick around only to be a pawn in the next move… maybe john will join a new cult (he was a member of one for some 20 years), maybe suicide… what ever it is, I'm always the

I've been thinking a lot about a lot of stuff.. I think sensitive beings are typically the ones that need to numb themselves from the pain they feel…when i say sensitive I mean sensitive to the pain of others, the global pain… it is the ultimate sadness.

we need the sensitive ones to speak up and out in order to sooth some of that global pain…

we need them to fight for us, not cry amongst us…

we need them but they don't need us, and so, the pain spreads and morphs into perversion and people who are gentle become harsh, the pacifist becomes violent.

and so it goes, and when I say goes I mean gone with the wind/ashes to ashes gone.

this will be my "Filmmaker Statement" when I get the site together for the book and film.

when I set out on our year long road trip which ultimately resulted in the film part of POLITICS•ART•RELIGION•REVOLUTION or The Suffering and Celebration of Life in America, I didn't have a script, this, what you'll see wasn't planned as a full length documentary… when we hit the road our sponsor dumped us at the kick off, the questions I had at that point were tame, they beat around the bush… After we were dumped, the idea of asking just what was on my mind, searching for answers to questions that really bothered me, the subjects I've been told to never bring up in a bar, the topics that create war among friends came into focus… why not, it wasn't like we'd lose our sponsor.

I was angry, angry from my lower middle class childhood, angry from societal injustices my wife and I suffered prior to this project, I was just angry and looked to blame the fake american way, it was the lack of art appreciation and free speech, it was religion and it's misguided flock, it was politics and the unfair voting system. And the only fix had to be revolt… this was before the tea party co-opted the lower middle class rage, before the word revolution sold books… this was where all that rhetoric began, in my zipcode, not theirs.

The goal was to paint a damning document of america and then leave, in search of a land that could live up to the idealistic beliefs our history books push… A land where it's ok to be who and what you want to be, full of opportunities for those who want to make a better life for themselves, a land where it's ok to not believe, to be skeptical of even the most sacred beliefs.

I planned on eventually editing the pieces down to only feature the worst of the worst… Three years of crying and trying later, I don't think that happened.

I decided to ask questions like… "Do we need a revolution to fix the system?", "If you vote, why?", "Is there a difference between religion and spirituality?" "Is there such a thing as too much free speech?" - We spoke about politics and art, and religion and revolution, and believe it or not, everyone was more than willing to discuss these taboo subjects, what we found out was that they weren't so taboo after all.

I've struggled with this film for over 3 years, self taught and naive, learning along the way and with what seems a dozen differing versions. The one I present today I'm extremely proud of… I usually don't feel that way too much when I finish a work or project… I usually hate myself even more than before… Maybe this is the hope I was looking for as we left our horrible life, I think subconsciously the wife and I were thinking less about painting a damming document and more that there had to be a better life out there than the one our families afforded us…

As we traveled we stayed with total strangers, folks who for the most part, we'd never agree with and who's political or religious persuasion would deeply offend us. I tried so hard to find people I'd have no problem painting as hate filled or idiots or both, yet all I found was humanity in one of it's purest forms, a peaceful, welcoming and kind humanity… Almost every person we ran across on the road shared their stories open and honestly, they gave and it seemed they would have given the shirt off of their back.

Speaking with strangers from state to state also confirmed the belief system I've built up throughout my years… I guess I shouldn't say SPEAKING with, I should say LISTENING to… as I listened, I found that even the folks I was vehemently opposed to, the religious, the republican, the drug addled dreg, I found that my "live and let live, be as free as you need, fuck with me or my loved ones and get hurt" belief system stood as ultimate truths and I found that more folks than I thought espoused those beliefs… whether they knew it or not. The listening tour also added some things to my belief system, stuff like people are decent not despicable, and it's ok to trust until given a reason not to.

We were real lucky to run into the subjects we did… the only one in the film that was planned, not by him mind you, but the only subject we planned from the beginning to visit was Ian Mackaye, when we planned on ending our trip in Washington D.C. most assumed it was for the white house. I wasn't… the plan from the start was to end at the Discord House, a symbol of all that is right, a symbol of the DIY movement, and the home of Ian Mackay, founder of Discord Records and Fugazi among other bands… A person who is a role model for Amy and myself and a person who influenced me and my business since I was a wee lad.

The reason I say we were lucky with the subjects we landed for the film is simple - they were and are amazingly smart… talk about sage advice, wizards and truth speakers… it was almost mystical the way they gave the answers whether we liked them or not, the answers that seemed the sooth the inner demons… I've traveled the USA many times, and never have I had the luck to run into so many amazingly smart and insightful individuals.

I hope you find the film stimulating.
I hope you read the book.
The film and book were birthed together, they are one, a two headed siamese twin of sorts.

so, the film for POLITICS•ART•RELIGION•REVOLUTION or the suffering and celebration of life in america is done and the layout for the book has begun… but I'm in a mood of sorts, confused and angry and my self taught naiveté doesn't help.

film fests. why do them at all? there are so many of them… and the bigger ones seem to be slanted to established filmmakers, they also seem to be geared towards the business of money making and lack the love of expression… not that I'm against money, but really, I'm just looking to get the fucking thing shown, I feel like it keeps up with other documentaries I've seen and the message is important to me. I'm just not sure what the best move might be for my baby and I don't want to send it off on it's own to be used and abused... I want my new born to be nurtured and fruitful.

I believe what we're about to release is the future of books… a book film combo, and not like a value pack, but a book that goes with the film and vise versa… a project that was produced together, at the same time… as amy wrote, I filmed… I'd imagine if all the road trip books folks would compare our trip to while on the road were birthed in this day and age, they'd look a lot like what we'll release this november.

funny. I was unsure as I started this blog. now I'm sure… well as sure as I can be, I might flip and flop and of course, I haven't spoke with amy yet but I think we'll just hit the road in november, on the 4 year anniversary of the start of the year long road trip that made this book and film possible. yep, I think we'll hit the road. if there's interest, we'll be there.

I'm not opposed to film festivals, just not into submitting and paying for the privilege of groveling to show my/our art. if invited, we'll show our film at a film fest. hell, we'll project the thing on a garage or screen it in a bar/coffee house… we'll speak at your school, do book readings in the park, whatever it takes to share this beast of a project with those who are interested.

If you know of a venue that might be into showing a film based on project a year at the wheel ( http://www.ayearatthewheel.com ) or selling/distributing our book and film or showing our artwork, sculptures or photograhy or all of the above, please let me know.

we'll start showing the film and selling the book in the pacific northwest in late october and start heading down the coast towards austin texas and all stops in between. an evil and perverted trunk show of sorts.

I'm quite proud of the film I've made, that's a rare occurrence for me. I'm also quite proud of the book I've helped out with... amy carried the weight as far as the writing goes, and her stuff has never been better.

I'd love any and all advice… know a film distributor, great! get me their address so we might show up and force a screening, fuck competing with a bunch of film nerds at a overhyped film fest to pitch/beg/grovel for a chance to be exploited… I'd rather scare them into paying attention.

heheheheee… I guess we might need more than a film distributor as this is a book and film that I'm not sure I want to separate… they go together… so maybe someone in the art market or a progressive publisher of books… yep, get me their home address or contact info. thanx.

I have the honor of appearing in the new ArtSync magazine and had the honor of being interviewed by christine clemmons… I'm still not sure how she got me to do the interview as I pass them up quite frequently. I'm also not sure how she got me to open up like I did, but she did and I did.

I really like the interview/story because it tries to encompass more than just one aspect of what I do or have done…. most stories/interviews focus on one thing, like serial killers or satanism or some singular event or moment… this piece deals with me, as a person and not a product.

there are many reason I'm proud to be a part of this project… the main reason is that it is a selfless project that seems to be as much an artistic endeavor as it is a art magazine. today, publishing and producing a magazine is a labor of love and it shows with this issue and this publisher.

dorothea puente died last weekend... she was a serial killing grand ma but I loved her a bit... we did a book together, we used to spend hours a day on the phone. at one point amy and I wrote a letter to the parol board when she was up for parol, letting them know that we'd take her in and give her work.

man I wish that would have happened.

I never thought thea was innocent, as a matter of fact, I knew she was guilty... she'd laugh at some of my more unsavory jokes and when I changed the title of the book from cooking with dorothea puente to cooking with a serial killer, thea only asked if it helped sales and if so, why not put her mug, on a coffee mug... I asked her how a coffee mug ties into cooking, she said the rumor about the drugs going in the food was only half of it and that there was another rumor that the cops never heard where some of the drugs would go into the morning coffee and the rest in the evening meals.

thea, I'll miss your forged artwork and constant asking for a box of goodies to be sent, or the need for me to send you a book and so on. wait, no I won't... that shit pissed me off.
ahhhhh... I guess I understood, being locked up and all, you gotta ask... and I always sent em.

yea, I used to love sending thea true crime books and believe it or not, she loved murder mysteries.

what's the fuckin point? I think the application process is a joke and worse, it's all about making the artist question themselves and they do enough of that.

I gotta say, I don't see me working with ANY galleries in the near future.... I've been on all ends of this game - seller, buyer, owner, exploiter and now possibly exploited... at this point I think making my own gallery is the goal, one gallery, one artist... I'll create my own spot by my own rules and I don't need an application for that, just a rent check and poof, I'm a gallery owner.

of course, if you're a gallery that has sales and a decent sense of humor and a respect of who you try to exploit, I'm open to contribute and create and all of that good shit.

the phelps free speech issue almost starts a conversation on what's really at issue, and it's not free speech, it's freedom to express.

human expression isn't always nice, and it's not always peaceful.

what the phelps are doing is more than speech, it's an expression, an action... and in nature actions have reactions for the most part.

because we were given free speech, most won't consider that they must have taken something from us... and they did. that something is unrestrained human expression as animals do, as we used to do … and, as I've pointed out - that expression isn't always nice.

I know if i was in the situation of being protested against at, let's say, my wife's funeral... as I make stuff and think of trying to sell stuff and look into galleries... man, what a scam.

the worst part… the galleries make the artist eat their ass to have the privilege of being exploited and sharing the cash... and it's not about talent per se, it's more about playing the game and at that point, why not just get a fuckin' job, in an office or someplace a bossman can make you eat his ass for guaranteed pay?

I used to have a gallery, this was before I had ever stepped foot in a gallery or art museum for that matter. I just never felt comfortable entering… I had left many a nose and finger prints on the outside of the windows of their prestigious locations before I started my anti-gallery. so, I imitated them and sold a bunch of stuff and eventually had curators come to my place trying to romance the folks I was working with, the artists I was pimping… I now felt better about myself, but felt great anger at them, the art establishment… how could they act so elite, yet have to slum to get the real deal?

galleries have become an outlet for rich kids who play the game, who go to art school, who have learned how to craft a piece that will go great with the couch… I only started a gallery to give my underground friends/artists a legitimacy so we could get some press, or what I considered press to be, which was advertising we couldn't afford so we could sell stuff, so we could continue to stay self employed.

once I felt ok entering galleries, I couldn't stop… maybe it was to wallow in my understanding that I knew where the greatest of great art really existed, I now knew better, great art resides on the street, in the basement, in a garage called a studio, in the zipcodes the rich seldom enter. it's rare to see real expression in galleries, it always seems like a visit to an art school or an over ambitious craft show… now museums, that's another story.

it's time for the artist to make the gallery jump thru the hoops, to make them apply, they should prove themselves, not the other way around… I mean, really… they want to exploit the artist… the creators… why shouldn't they be the ones to prove themselves? btw - being able to pay rent on a store front isn't proving yourself, it's paying a bill.

how the fuck did the creative class forget it's power? how did things get so out of control, so lopsided?

I wonder... are there any galleries that are cool, that research, that recruit, that court talent rather than lazily wait for the 'talent' to come to them?

an application process doesn't seem like a way to get the strongest, the best... it seems like a way to break someone down, make them submit and anyone willing to do that might be the weaker part of the creative species.

you know, a gallery just sent me an application to SUBMIT.
I wanted to write them back and let them know the only way I submit is if you're naked.

I'm sorry to say, I've had to rethink my association with the 'feral art collective' and the con-signment shop knows as wicked "gallery".

there's seldom one reason why things like this happen.

like I said, it's not you, it's me. unlike most artists, I have expectations.

when I got involved it was a collective, not a gallery… this I was cool with. I liked the fact that the feral art collective was willing to go out there and get multiple spots to hang, like the museum show and even the street fairs for instance.

what started for me as a group effort to get noticed and make opportunity quickly turned into a project to promote one couple, and to help them exploit the 'collective' with a con-signment shop that takes no responsibility for the artist's work while in their possession, and without proper insurance to take in actual artwork.

regardless of any of that… the straw that cracked this fat man's back was that the gallery broke a piece of my art, an expensive piece of art. I tried to work it our with them, but instead of being helpful or even just apologize, they had an aggressive and bad attitude. not professional or compassionate, and a bit surprising coming from a group of so-called artists… I mean, the piece I sent was like a baby to me… it was a creation I valued and it being hurt, bothered me.

I made it very clear up front I expected insurance where ever my pieces were displayed/hung, as should any creator/artist worth their salt.

wanting to break from this kind of ilk without war, without having to explain to all in a blog, with full respect of the collective and its other hardworking artists… I didn't want to cause them any harm or negative attention. all I asked was that my art be returned unharmed and for them to not talk a bunch of shit about the who's and whys of what happened… for the better of the collective.

this didn't happen, I received my artwork last night and it was full of damage… one piece is destroyed. they did in fact talk a bunch of shit and the owner even blamed her husband's car wreck on me and my satanic ways.

I was lied to and my experience with wicked gallery has cost me money and destroyed some of my art.

don't know about you, but art supplies, and shipping, and all of that are hard enough. then there's the time it takes to find time to create, anyone who has, knows how precious that time is. to have someone not be considerate of that, to have them be rude and refuse to take any sort of responsibility is beyond what I will deal with and shouldn't be something any artist/creator should have issue with.

I do think there's a lot of great art and artists in the feral art collective… too bad they're caught up being manipulated for the better of a few/two, for the illusion that they will earn, for elaborate beer parties at a 'gallery' that yields very little, if any in sales, and only serves to entertain a bored housewife/mother.

this situation solidifies my belief that words are the biggest illusion… next time I'll ask for proof of insurance.

to sum it up… this is yet another example of the corrupting influence of money in the art world.

this isn't the first time, and it won't be the last.

the outrage and headlines over jullian assanage's recent issues with web hosting companies, on-line billing businesses, visa, mastercard and the like are funny to me for the simple fact that these tactics have been used forever on pornographers and underground publishers like myself.

my business has been hit with DOS attacks, visits from the feds, paypal holding funds, keeping funds, blocking payments and in general harassing us out of business from time to time… not for breaking the law mind you… it was always a moral clause…a moral clause that WE ALL sign when we use the service.

the moral clauses from and of the corporations are in direct violation of most of our rights as citizens… and of course a business has their rights too, and we make our choice to use those services…. but, somewhere in-between there is a decent way to conduct business within the rule of law. of course a business has an obligation to not provide their services for illegal acts… they might be held liable and all of that… but the moral clauses are immoral, and anti-constitution, and ultimately anti-american.

the thing I see with the entire wikileaks case is that we do need new laws with this brave new technological world, but not laws against the people, we need laws to control the wealthy… after all, we're all dogs, some more wolf than poodle, but all dogs… it's the dogs with unlimited resources (big, strong, wolf like teeth) that need to be controlled, not the dogs with no resources (sharp, yet small teeth riddled with tooth-decay because they eat too much cake). the lower end dogs with bad teeth usually take care of themselves and ultimately kill each other off with the tools of the bigger dog anyway, so again… we don't need to control folks who do nothing but consume… it's the bigger dogs who give them all they can consume, and consume they do, endless and ignorant and without care… but I'm getting away from the point, or am I????

I understand these words fall on deaf ears, after all everyone reading this is guilty of putting up with the patriot act and other attacks on our constitution… all in the name of 'survival', being over worked, too many things on the 'to do' list or whatever the reason… we have ALL let this happen by turning a blind eye when censorship and corporate control happens to the low end, hippie artist or the hate filled nazi… when we let our political fetishes cloud what is our constitutional rights, we laugh as it happens to them, we WILL cry when it happens to us.

we have entered the information age and we need to evolve the conversation to one of a global nature, not just a what's on t.v. in the u.s.a. conversation… we need to lobby for rights, not sit on our hands and be thankful that we're safe indoors, on the couch, warm and basking in nuclear generated light.

the internet is an important tool… this wikileaks issue should make any who didn't get that the world wide web is… world wide, and really powerful, think and understand just how powerful a tool we have at our finger tips… don't just let them take it away, don't trade all of our rights for the freedom to watch wacky youtube videos.

I'm not sure what can be done, maybe mass calling of your local politician?? I don't know, but I have hope that you might.

today, 14 years ago amy and I were married at the spot where the first shot of the american revolution was fired.

it's a lot of work being married and all.

ok, so I'm a bit late with my decade overview and 2009 remembrance.

hmmmm... in 2009 I worked a lot on turning project a year at the wheel into a film and book. it's been a trip to say the least, and I'm not talking the actual movement of the road, I'm talking a trip to the brain. not sure if anyone will get the film I've come up with, but it made me feel better... hell, I'm not sure if anyone will get the book, the film, or any of it! I know I get it, and it's made me a better/worse person. 'it' being, the working out of the trip with a book, and what looks like, not 1, but 2 films (more on 1or2 films in a future post).

2009 was also the year I fell in love with the photo and started making art again. so, for the most part, I spent 2009 walking the beach, digesting our crazy road trip and creating what some call art/sculptures.

yep, that's about it... except for, the only other immediate, and what feels like important/substantial memory is the train trip I took 'home' to dig thru the last of my material possessions, visit an old pal or three, bury a family member and return the plaster cast cock of mike diana (for all keeping up, I sent it, the cock cast, back to cynthia plaster caster). the only part of 2009 that really matters to me is that my wife, myself, dog and turtle are together and happier than ever.

my new years resolution - to update my blog more often but seeing as it's feb 17th and I'm posting my 2009 in review, maybe I should stick to my regular resolution which is, no resolutions.

for those interested or following along - here's what I did for last 10 years.

1998-1999 - chicago at night - a monthly adult entertainment paper. published/designed/photo/everything.

1999 - 2nd expo of the extreme - art/entertainment event featuring motorhead and was mentioned on the howard stern show by dana plato the day before she died. - conceptualized/produced/promoted.

2000 - dana plato's last breath - book/cd - author/publisher

2001 - bought a 10,000 sq. foot building with old printing presses and a button machine on the first floor - printed 3 comic books, a book and a magazine, designed over 10,000 1"pins and went on 'the angry white male' book tour/victory lap with mike diana and jim goad. retired the michael hunt publishing name and decided to quit publishing books because all people wanted were trinkets, doodads and 1"pins.

2002-2004 - sold the building right before loosing it and moved to the armpit of america - hammond, indiana. where we took a shack and gutted and rehabbed it... I built an audio studio into our new humble abode and went into internet broadcasting/podcasting with my radio show 'three ring radio'.

was also lucky to have helped my wife bring the actors from the film 'a christmas story' into hammond to celebrate the life of author jean shepherd, a literary genius who WAS for the most part ignored in hammond, that is until amy and myself stepped in.

2005-2006 - packed up, sold the house and had the moving truck pointed to N.Y. when amy's dad had a stroke. putting all of our plans aside, we moved to ely minnesota, a small town in the middle of the superior national forest to help dad heal... a lot different than selling sleaze in N.Y.C

with no one to sell skull shaped pins and underground/subversive comics to, I came up with the novel idea of starting a soda pop company... and poof - ely elixir blueberry soda was created and became popular thru-out the state of minnesota... we then decided to put some of the profits into creating an arts and entertainment paper as well as the first podcast from the great northwoods.

we were run out of town for our efforts - some say it was due to our underground/subversive ways, the indian tribe and local powerbrokers all seemed to agree - we stepped on too many toes too quick.

2007- shunned and run out of minnesota, we head to where any heretic would head in hopes of survival - Los Angeles! after a brief stint making porn, my head imploded and I could no longer take it - the politics of the day, what I had become, none of it... so we packed up our laurel canyon shack and hit the road... this time with a plan of never leaving the road again...

2008 - on the road realizing a crazy idea and more importantly ourselves.

2009 - digesting our road trip by making a book and film (maybe 2 flicks)

ahhh.... I'm sure I've forgotten a thing or three, but there it is for the most part - the last 10 year of my life, and/or, my contribution to the first ten years of the next 1000.

** here's one I forgot: between 1999 and 2001 I drove around with ed gein's headstone as the third seat in my van... the seattle police confiscated it on the angry white male tour.

my visit with my old pal shane swank was wonderful... we're not sure how we lost touch, but it was like no time had passed.

we worked on creative stuff, had great conversations, bought two jesus heads at the local thrift. we ate peanut butter bday cake and learned about native bead working from his neighbors... cake, steak and stew... man did we eat like fuckin kings.

I love mr. swank, he was and is a mentor to me - I learned alot from swank in the old days and even more over the last couple of days.

in the last 72 hrs we produced a painting (swanks first in 2.5 years, and made to see what he could do in an hour), a sketch, a sculpture and a mojo bottle... oh, and swank is 50% into a handmade book as well... if only we could bottle this creative energy, the world would be a different place.

this is also a fitting start to the find a home for the cynthia plaster caster/mike diana cock cast... swank does live in a town with a name that sounds alot like schwanz and swank knows cynthia and I used the cock cast for a sculpture I made while visiting. the mother mary lawn display is/was a staple in the chicago neighborhoods I've lived in... I don't/didn't see it alot in most of the places I've traveled, so I wonder if it's just a midwestern thing?

this was the home we owned in hammond, indiana... when the new owner got a look at me, she did the sign of the cross and ran away praying... think I'm kidding?

here's what the current owners spray painted on the door of my studio... it's been on the door for close to 5 years now. it's the third place I've owned or rented that priests have been called in to bless my mess.

I had parents but not a mother or father - this is marie, she owns the bait shop next to our old hammond home... she's one of the ladies I call mom. I miss her, it was great to see her.

we had a picnic of wine, crackers, cheese, sausage, nuts, seeds and apples... amtrak's food is rotten - trader joe's aint.

we decided to bring 4 camera's each and we'd try to take a ton of photos.

I love the train because of the wild mix of folk you meet.

and the religious fanatics always seem to despise all who differ.

but they have no choice...

my very own che chili...

Che Chili - If snickers helps you work, rest and play then Che Chili will help you work, resist and slay.

-INGREDIENTS-

2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 large red onion, chopped
2 red peppers, chopped
6 cloves garlic, minced
3 teaspoons sea salt
1 large sweet potato, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
1 large yam, cut into 1/2 cubes
Zest and juice of 1&1/2 lime
1 28-can diced tomatoes
4 15-ounce cans black beans, rinsed and drained (or 6 cups freshly cooked)
2 jalapeno chile pepper, seeded and chopped
1&1/2 tablespoon cumin
1&1/2 tablespoon chili powder
2 teaspoon cocoa powder
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1&1/2 lime, cut into wedges
1 cup chopped cilantro leaves, washed and dried

1. Warm the oil in a large pan over medium heat and add the onion, red peppers, garlic, and salt. Saute until soft, about 4 minutes.

2. Add the sweet potato and lime zest, and cook 10 to 15 minutes more, continuing to stir occasionally.

3. Add the tomatoes, black beans, jalapeno, lime juice, cumin, chili powder, black pepper and cocoa, bring to a simmer, cover, and cook for 10 minutes.

4. Serve over brown rice, if desired, with lime wedges and cilantro, or with corn bread, biscuits, or taco chips alongside.

5. meat lovers like me - do yourself a favor, pull out the crock pot and make you some pulled pork... or fry up some chorizo and add it to the individual servings.

made from the bones of an entire deer, a dog skull found on the beach, a broken and fake chupacabra hand, beads, Chinese coins, a deer figurine, a porcelain angel figurine, a broken dinner plate and assorted bones from smaller animals.

this is 12" tall and aprox 13" in diameter.

started in roseburg oregon and completed on the beach, seaview washington.
I used the bones because it's what was available... it's what I found on my walks... like the drift wood I used in earlier pieces.

being more greedy is a concept I'll be explaining in full for an upcoming book we're putting out... the book revolves around our year long road trip. made from bones I found along the roadside in roseburg, oregon, 'the clay' and a smashed patriotic bowl and some hand made dave archer beads.

the bowl is 13" in diameter and aprox 6.5" tall

quite literally the entire bttm of the bowl is bones covered with 'the clay'... like skin hung over bones. wish I had pics of it in the early stages, before so much of the bones were covered... I do have video, someday I just might post.

I started the bowl in roeseburg, or. and I finished it in seaview, wa.

you might be able to tell by the 'markings' in 'the clay' that it was finished on the beach... I guess I'm telling youz about the locations and stuff cuz I heard once that paintings and sculptures were a form of documentation, and I wasn't sure I could always agree with that - I think I'm starting to get it, maybe not... but it's worth a try, no?

The recent Iranian hoopla really bothers me, not for the right of democracy that most are blindly shouting for, but for the fact that we the people don't cry out as much about our own fucked up american system.

do we really need to stick our nose in others business when our business is so fucked up?

1. I ask why aren't we being more skeptical of the news media that most US citizens have zero faith in.

2. Isn't this a country that hangs gays, forces pre-pubescent girls in to marriage/rape and other customs that I don't get, and are definitely not ok within our society.

so, let them work it out, but, really, shouldn't we get our house in order before we whine about the way others run things?

I'd like to suggest fixing the corrupt, unfair voting system we have here - maybe talk with each other about voting thru out the 4 year presidential term and not just the 4 months before an election.

making new food while stoned is a favorite pass time.
I do it alot less than my younger days and wish I had the fortitude to take notes back in the day.

this was amazing, a bit pricey but worth it.

lay down in this order...

-1 piece wasa multigrain crisp bread
- turkey breast lunch meat, don't skimp get the best of the breast.
- 6-7 blueberries, smash flat so they'll lay in a layer
-a slice or two of Cotswold cheese, about 2/8 in. thick, place dwn center.
-6-7 blueberries, again, smash flat so they'll lay in a layer.
- waffer thin slices of red onion
- a squirt of mayo
- a smaller squirt of a dijon mustard

maybe a couple of thin slices of tomato.

you must toast this treat, toast until onions & cheese brown together.

start with desert, preferably a kit kat candy bar.

Ever wonder what it's like to live without health insurance?

Probably not, as most hold some sort of 'job' that allows them some sort of coverage. Or they have some kind of "condition", physical or mental, that gets them on the dole.

But what about the artists, the non-profits, dissidents, and the entrepreneurial innovators... people who would rather contribute than take - true philanthropists.

Oh why, cruel world, have the artists, the hard working yet fiercely independent spirits been forsaken?

For over two decades I've lived and survived (barely) as an 'underground' publisher, creator and communicator. Throughout my two decades, I have found very few alternatives to using the E.R. as a substitute for a regular doc. The funny thing about that is, my ilk usually waits until things are desperate enough, and the need for answers greater than we can stand, before heading to the old E.R..

Some might think this E.R. tactic lazy, some might think it a 'burden' on the state. Burden, maybe - lazy, not likely... how about, really fuckin scary. That fear is usually compounded if you have tattoos, piercings, or live a life outside of what is considered normal. So, as an uninsured, heathen, sorta non-profit, creative innovator and entrepreneurial philanthropist, my experiences at the E.R. have usually been depressing.

I was reminded of this when I recently made a trip to the Emergency Room. I was feeling some really bad symptoms, waiting it out wasn't making things any better, and a try at internet diagnosis just made things worse. To me, this WAS an emergency!

I received a cat scan and some sort of 'full work-up', I was then treated as a criminal for using the E.R.. Not a person liable for a bill that is 20 times the cost of a regular doctor, not a person in desperate need of answers. The doctor made it clear that his only responsibility was to make sure it wasn't an emergency and "as long as you don't drop in 2 days, I'm off the hook". In fact, he offered very few results of the tests.

Today, a friend of ours went to the E.R. with some of the same symptoms I had, only difference, they're insured. They were told about this 'crazy virus' and happily passed the information on to us - good thing we have a couple of friends with insurance, now we might be able to stop stressing and get some rest.

All in all, I guess you could say I've made bad personal choices as far as my own health... but I gotta wonder, do 'we' as a society want doctors who would turn someone, anyone out on the streets with a possible virus to spread among the chosen, the insured. For the hard working, fiercely independent spirits who survive without government assistance - your future is lottery luck, death, or the dole - there is no middle ground.

It was inspired by a story amy told me... once she hit a deer and cried over it's dying body... the deer kicked amy with one of it's last breaths - amy, so sorry to the deer, offered her body for it's soul to reside... I believe it has.

dave archer started it... I took a hammer, 'the' clay, a 22 bullet, some smashed waterford crystal glassware, a sea gull carcass, a little moon man, fake wolf eyes and a couple of sharks teeth to it.

what a week. and each time I thought to update the blog, I ultimately came up with the excuse that there were no good reasons to wash my hands, so we ate, drank, smoked and made stuff. photos and video below.

made this in a sorta ritualistic way. thinking the entire time about my brother, who was gonna go back to the "sand box' for a third time... this time it was to be afghanistan... and the entire time I played with the clay I thought "please don't go".

funny thing, the day I called it quits on this was the same day derek got the news -he was rejected because of high cholesterol.

the new class system

We've grown out of the conventional class system and into the new class system - those who suffer from PTSD and those that do not.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder doesn't just apply to the military. It's fits any and all who have suffered trauma, without the benefit of time to heal.

Until I befriended a vet suffering and diagnosed with PTSD, I never knew.

After figuring out what PTSD was, I felt the military was lucky to be diagnosed with PTSD - they at least have reason why they no longer fit into a normal situation.

But where's the PTSD pills for the rape victims in the ghettos and the beaten and abused kids from the burbs??

I wish someone would have schooled me on PTSD alot sooner.... it's really helped me figure out why I've acted out of character from time to time.

now, if they would just legalize weed.
