ely, mn. - smells like fire, sounds like a curse!

at least I once thought about actually torching you. I really hated how you made my wife cry.
I did lay down a curse before I left, one that you would burn to the ground and be built back up by the same people who you took the land from, the tribe/casino.

when we left ely we went on a year long road trip circling the country... in one of the biggest rituals ever, I swore I would get your attention and ultimate apology for treating me and my wife as filth for how we thought, contrary to how we contributed and befriended the community, regardless of the fact that we were only there to help amy's father after he had a stroke, regardless of the fact we started a business and created jobs.

you were so cruel, and I mean the entire town of ely, you acted as a collective so I had no choice but to curse you as a collective.

if you'd like things to cool down, if you'd like me to lift the curse... I'm gonna need a letter of apology note to my family for your cruel and ignorant actions.

so, I will await your letter of apology.

here's an article that somewhat explains what happened: http://www.citypages.com/2007-04-04/news/sympathy-for-the-devil/

here's a video that might help illustrate my rage/pain/hate:

Iron mike is a fella who lives in ely. he's respected by some... he even plays poet/author, he isn't but he needs to make some coin off the tourist so resident story teller is his deal.

he was also part of the city council and a person instrumental in spreading lies about us. when this happened I desperately reached out, I wanted to at the least be able to explain my side of things... mike wouldn't let that happen... he knew then the fix was in because he was in on the fix!

thanx christine! the audio on the video at the start is fucked up but it gets even better... and OH YEA are we lucky. yea, I wanted to play the point game alright... had I had a time machine to either make me an old man or bring back the young iron mike, well, I would have played the point game had he been younger.... and still I treat them as if they are human.

Yo, we're not burning here and there are still a lot of good people here. But yes, there are also still a whole bunch of small-minded, backwoods douchebags who should sacrifice themselves to the wildfire. You and Amy brought vision and a fierce dedication to the first ammendment that hasn't been equaled in this town since. We were lucky to have you two here.

well, there are good folk up there... I can count em on me hands and toes tho. the area is famous for being close minded... dylan hated it and what was that major movie filmed up that way about the harsh treatment of woman... heartland was it?

thank you so much for commenting, even if anonymous, I understand tho... I lived there... and I loved it and I loved the people and it was 'good' for me and I grew and that's stuff 'they' can't take.

thanx, yo.

No matter what Shane says, I know he loved living in Ely. It is because he loved it so much, that it hurt so bad when we were shunned, our business destroyed, and we were forced to move. I was devastated to have to leave my father.

We did everything we could to be part of and help the community, we donated sodapop, tried to organize a fundraiser for the school -- having come from such an urban life, Ely was a wonderful culture shock for us, and we learned a lot - most of it good.

It was heartbreaking to be a part of a community and overnight we were not. We found out much later, it was all a few awful people who were mad we beat them to the punch with podcasting from the Northwoods - everyone else just fell in place as their pawns, their stupid, stupid pawns.

That said, we still have a few very dear friends up there, and we did know some very nice people, and I wish them safety. I am incredibly sad to think of all the trees and wildlife that are being destroyed.

Such a tragedy!
